Kick Ass Dress!

Another tale of instant fabric love.  Randomly walking through the fabric store this one just jumps out at me and yells - I need to be a kick ass dress!  Obviously it knew what it wanted out of life.  Who am I to interfere with that??  On top of that I had just found this amazing vintage lace at my favorite crafty store, Garage 34 and I thought the two would get along fabulously (and they do).

I actually have been working on this one for awhile.  I had to put it away for awhile because we weren't getting along and I needed some space.  But, we've managed to come to an agreement about what should happen with the back so I went ahead and finished it.    I'm going to say I didn't use a pattern on this one.  I think I started out with one but I had to take one whole piece out (What?) and the top was just figured out so, yes, no pattern for this one : )  I have to say I am pretty impressed with this one.  I've not attempted such an open back before and I love love it.  I think I will add something fun to the top part where it connects but it works for now : )

and the back!

Finished just in time for my Welcome Back party.  Hello all,  I'm back : )

love love this cheesy girl : )

myfm~strangely enough Valentine's Day by Bruce Springsteen.  I've been working on this biography of Mr. Springsteen that I got at work a few months ago and wanted to check out all of this revolutionary music I was reading about.   He has about a million brilliant tunes. I'll probably introduce you to some more again soon.

Re-creation~Frikin sweet tank top and a quick upcycle for my girl

taken from here

I. must. make. this.

And I did. (a version of it anyhow)

Here it is.

I tried. That's the best picture I could get this morning.  But I'm pretty excited about the shirt.

So, yes, I did go buy a new tank top for this but I have two reasons.  1.-it is really hard to find a decent tank top at the bins and most of mine have just about bit the dust, and 2. - I was gifted the lace from sweet Vivian and I know a shop downtown that has a literal rainbow of tank tops in their window.  Finding the lace has been the hardest part.  Once I had that it was easy to acquire a tank top to match.

Instead of just cutting straight up the side I detached a section of the edging at the top so all I had to do was reattach it for a nice finished edge once I had put the lace in.

I will more than likely make more of these because it took less than an hour even with trying to sort out how I wanted to make it happen and they are so flippin cute.  I want to try it with a different style top.  We'll see what I can find.  I will just continue my perpetual search for pretty lace soft enough to use for something like this...

And for my sweet girl I turned a stupid shapeless shirt from the bins into a simple comfy dress/top to run around in.

She's getting pretty tired of the pictures already.  I have turned into my grandma. (*love you grandma)

I like the back the most I think.  I got another just blue ridiculous shirt just like this one.  Simple comfy easy fix x2.

myfm - ugh.  I had this one going for awhile because it was on the radio when I got here.  Not even the country version the new one with Nelly.  All better now ~ managed to drown it out with Lindsey Stirling. She's amazing.  I plugged in my headphones and now I'm just enjoying this magnificent day in the shade on this badass porch with some cool people and their cool dogs .

Sweet skirt June Week 2

So, not a whole set but I already have a top that goes with this (not the one in the picture I couldn't find it and I'm impatient)  so why make things more difficult?  I got this fabric ages ago in Japan and I knew kind of what I wanted to do with it but never got around to it.

I apologize for the wrinkles but I'm still currently sans iron so it will have to do for now.

It came in a strip with three of these lovely fan designs on it so the easiest thing to do was to take advantage of those predestined sections and make a sweet skirt.  I briefly considered a dress like thing but just no.  I had to get lining for it because crazy thin + white = just not something I'm looking to share with the locals.  I was really excited to find the exact kind of fabric (mostly polyester with some rayon) at the fabric store.  I was also really excited that I went (for the first time since Thanksgiving) for one thing and I left with just that one thing.  Also, I had a coupon so it didn't sting quite as much.

I didn't use a pattern for this one because it was really just fusing the pieces in a decent place and making a waistband which isn't really all that hard.  Just time consuming.  I forgot how long it takes to get a waistband like that in place...

ta daaaaaa

....and this boys and girls, is why we always use our tools in the way they were intended.  For the record, rotary cutters don't make good seam rippers.  At least I somehow got a moustache out of it...

What to do...June - Summer

I know it's not exactly been progressing this month, at least not where you can see.  I've resigned myself to the fact that sometimes life just happens and occasionally when it happens in certain ways this won't.  Roll with the punches so to speak.

Anyhow, tomorrow is June.  I know.  Jubilance at the amazing weather we've been having mixed with the knowledge that cold is just a few months away.   *sigh

So ~ I've got a few fabrics that need to be something awesome for June - which is going to be full of fun summery goodness.  I wanted to just put up one but I couldn't choose just one so here is what I narrowed it down to with help from the illustrious Becky : )

I don't have much of this one (about a meter) but I love love it.  Maybe a skirt of some kind?
(a slightly heavyish probably cotton)

I think my mamma gave me this one - I have tons - what to do....
 (regular old cotton)

More flowers.  But it's so soft I can't wait to make something
(super soft maybe a tiny bit stretchy cotton (I think) but definitely not knit)

Help me out.  What do these fabrics want to be this month?

And just because ~ this is what I like to do Friday mornings with my girl ~
